I would like everyone's opinion- I am thinking about making a second blog where we can explore the RS and SS lessons in more depth, I would post the lesson numbers, some of the scripture references, and some questions from each lesson, and we would be able to further explore what we talk about on Sundays. Here are my questions for everyone:
1. would you be interested in having this type of blog?
2. would you rather me post things from the upcoming lesson the week before, or would you rather me post it after we have had the lesson- as kind-of a follow-up?
My other questions are about this blog. . . since everyone seems to think it is a good idea, and yet I am not getting too much feedback in the way of comments on this blog like I would have hoped, I was wondering what you think I should do better. So here are the questions pertaining to this blog:
1. Is there a way you think would be better for posting comments?
2. Would you rather I picked topics, or specific scriptures to explore?
3. Would you be interested in having a different person pick a topic and blog about it each week?
4. Whatever else you think I should ask.
Please give me some feedback via comments or e-mail me at either BanannaBat@gmail.com or lp1rsliteracy@gmail.com (which is what I prefer since it is the e-mail I set up specifically for this)

Hi. I think this is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on what to post: I think keeping it simple is always a great idea. For example just posting one scripture or quote each time would be great for me. Then I wouldn't have to read a whole talk's worth of things, but still be able to share my two cents. Also, just from personal blogging experience, don't let lack of comments scare you away. If this blog is consistent, people will start to read it consistently and post comments as they feel inspired.
Thanks for doing this :)

I think this blog is a good idea-- I added it to my reader. :)
ReplyDeleteMy responses to your questions:
1. I think it's a good idea to just have one blog. However, I am interested in discussing things from the lessons, so I think it would be great to incorporate that idea into this blog as well.
I don't know how often you were planning on posting and I'm not sure where the happy medium between too often and not enough lies. For example, perhaps you could make one post about the RS/SS lesson and one post about a scripture/top each week, like on Mon and Thurs or whatever--spread out.
2. I think posting about the lesson that just happened as follow-up would be good. Usually people have different takes on things and I have more to say after hearing them.
In response to your other questions:
1.Posting comments on the blog is fine.
2. I think just stating a topic with a few sentences to explain your thoughts or why you chose it, or choosing one scripture (or passage) would be good then everyone can comment on it in whatever direction they want. In my opinion it gets too formal and too much like homework when so many references are already provided (not to mention all the work it is for you to find them all). I imagine people would comment and tell about whatever talks, refs, etc they've found and in that way we can be exposed to a variety of sources or ideas on a given topic/scripture.
3. If somebody wants to pick a topic they can email you.
4. um....
Thanks Catherine! Don't despair if people don't comment. Give it a little time to warm up and hopefully soon it can become an interesting discussion board. :)

i agree, both scripture and lesson topics should be covered in this one blog. too many bloggs is too much effort to traffic! i don't know if there's a way to split the two into columns for visual organizational purposes, but if not, i still think it'd be cool just to have it all in one place :)
ReplyDeletealso, i love the idea of continuing the discussion from relief society lessons. 35 minutes or whatever is usually not enough time to cover all the coolness of so many lessons. katie and i grabbed heather after this week to hear more during the sunday school hour! ;-)
i also think blogs are a great way for people to keep up on one another and create even more community. sometimes, of the community blogs i frequent, i wish i could meet in person with many of the authors, and have both face and screen time. this allows for both, and gives more people an opportunity to get involved and get to know one another, and i like it :)
and i think you should probably just keep it up for now, see how it goes. if people want to get involved in topics and posting, etc, they can contact you. this space will likely evolve over time as well, which is a good thing!
i'm leaving for the summer next sunday, but i'll be on here all the time anyway. so thanks for starting this! :D
I also think it is great that you're doing this and have made a goal to get more involved! Kudos to you! And thanks for spending your time creating such inspired messages.
